Sorted it. After speaking with support I used the separate 'Network Configuration Manager Licensing applet and this resolved the issue.
EDIT: Additional info: The most recent version of the license manager (v3.0.0.604 for all you fact fans!) showed the status of my NCM license. One more reason for me to remember to update the goram applet first! You can get it from here.
