Yes I understand that NCM is a module, THAT is part of the problem as not being intuitive. It such a waste of time jumping around from interface to interface and logging into this server and that server to get simple tasks done. We admins have enough on our plate to deal with and SWI DOES not make that any easier. PRTG does and does it very well. Remember that least amount of "clicks" and keyboard strokes the less chance of a mistake. Granted that you should always double check your work but there you are again, "jumping around from interface to interface and logging into this server and that server"
I do not have to use SNMP. I can use WMI, SSH, Powershell, etc... In the screenshot below I can select from Monitor What, Target System Type, and Technology Used. Note that I do not have to select within each category. For example I could select just the Target Type and/or Technology Used. Each one is independent of the other. As you select from each category the sensor list below them will change based on what is possible with your selection, The Custom Sensors is where you can create your own via scripts or imported OIDs and MIBs. Did I mention that a single PRTG license includes failover!? Yes, you can have two installs of PRTG and have them in a failover setup at no extra cost. Buy two licenses and you can have a four-way cluster. Solarwinds charges $5000 for a two-way cluster option, another $5000 for a three-way, etc... I would hate to see what is involved in that setup.
