I am also trying to do something similar. I want to identify switchports that are in access or trunk mode to apply interface descriptions. Have you had any luck getting this working?

NCM uses a default credential set but if the switch uses a different credentials to the default one, then you'll need to enter those credentials for each device that does not use the default credentials.
